History:
In 1852, an “Academy for Kindergarten” was established by the fledgling community of California, which was renamed as “South-Western Normal School” in 1874. Pennsylvania bought and renamed the school to “California State Normal School” and declared it as training of elementary school teachers.

The institution moved back to 4-year curriculum plan in 1928, getting a new name “California State Teachers College” which became “California State College” in 1959. At last, it was the July 1, 1983, when the glory reached its limits—the institute became California University of Pennsylvania!
